A lot of you have been asking if we're okay and/or if we've abandoned the blog and I'm here to tell you all that everything is fine.
We've just been really busy.
We've always said we wouldn't be one of those bloggers -- you know, the ones that post once every few months. Well, we started off strong but lately life has gotten in the way. Lately our evenings comprise of getting in from work around 7:30pm...dinner is either leftovers or something super easy, and then after a bit, just heading to bed to start another day. Between obligations at work, family crises, and house hunting; we've been spent.
But I think we're back. Things have quieted down a bit and, well, since I've been having dreams about posting, I think it's time to get back into the swing of things...AND what a better way to do so then to host a Thanksgiving dinner this weekend (14 people!!).
This is huge for me. Thanksgiving (us wacky Canadians celebrate this weekend), for us, has always been a great excuse to overeat, overdrink, and overlaugh in our family. This is the first year that I'm hosting and it is nervewracking and exciting all at once. I suddenly feel like a grown up.
So besides the usual huge turkey, I have no idea what else is on the menu...and it's 2 days away. Any menu ideas and suggestions would be much appreciated...anything from appetizers to desserts. What tried and true recipes have gotten you through the holidays?
Long story short, look forward to posts this weekend with all the turkey-day details.

I was starting to get worried! I'm sure you'll do well..just make sure that there is tons of mashed potatoes and it'll be great! Can't wait for the details...
Oh oh, let me! Let's see, mountains of roasted beautiful roasted squash drizzled with maple syrup; a stuffing with fennel, sausage and tons of herbs; cranberries slow cooked with some star anise and fresh orange juice for that sauce; for dessert maple pumpkin pots de creme (recipe here)

A new post - yay - finally! Missed u guys incredibly! Also updated my blog last nite around same time. Paris trip#2 up soon.
Turkey will be your showcase & yours is the BEST, tender & juicy & tasty gravy! I grew up with 'ordinary' Thanksgiving sides like carrots, potatoes & brocolli, my Mom has surprised us some yrs with stuffed zuccini as an appetizer - stuffing includes bacon to give smoky flavour. You gotta have sweet potatoes - my mom & sis do a casserole with mashed ones w/ pecans & carmelized brown sugar. And of course pumpkin pie & an apple pie are musts for this holiday (fresh pumpkin is best but canned (ED Smith) has lots of good seasoning in it usually).

I was missing you guys but glad for the update. last year I made my first Turkey-day meal for my family, as they were visiting NYC, and one dish was especially a hit. It was sweet potato risotto: basically cubed sweet potatoes roasted in the oven with herbs and then added to a simple risotto with lots of dry white wine, broth, herbs, marscapone and parm. I also put goat cheese and bacon in my stuffing which was yummy and earthy. I think I adapted both of these from recipes on epicurious. cant wait to see what you come up with!
The sweet potatoes sound great but unfortunately I think half the guests don't love it - hubby included. I love the idea of the roasted squash and I think I'll make that. I'm getting excited!

I'm hosting a Thanksgiving dinner this weekend too! I know I've definitely become one of those bloggers that hasn't posted in a while (My last post was end of July, apparently) But I'll make the effort to find time for this one!

Thank you guys for the best time we had tonight, the Turkey was delicious....all the trimmings too...great family, we had so much fun, good conversation...the kids are delicious.....
